Picture of Richard Ashe - Melodeon player with Sheer Hopody Barn Dance Band

"I first took up the Melodeon while a student at Exeter University after discovering that it was considerably more portable than a piano! I was dancing at that time with Great Western Morris as a way of getting the unsuspecting public to give me money and beer. They were short of musicians and so I decided to give it a go and I haven’t looked back since. From playing for Morris dancing it was a short step to playing for social dancing. I joined my first band on my return to London in 1978 and since then I have played with many bands up and down the country. After moving back to Devon I joined Sheer Hopody, and I am having a whale of a time playing with such a great bunch of musicians."

We were very lucky to get Richard on board before anyone else snapped him up! He has an interesting and wide-ranging repertoire of folk dance music from across england and beyond.
